A „skate spinner“ is a practical tool to train the movement of pirouettes and turn jumps. This modern training device is especially popular with figure skaters as a way to train balance and correct posture away from the ice.

But also in related sports like inline figure skating or roller figure skating as well as dancers of any style like to use skate spinners in training.

The bottom is shaped like a figure skating blade, simulating its characteristics. To rotate with the Skate Spinner, you have to find your body center exactly - just like on the ice - and be balanced in all directions.

Use your Spinner on a hard, slippery and even surface free of sand and small stones. On a softer surface the speed of rotation will be slower.

Instructions for the basic exercise with the skate spinner

Place your foot on Spinner, toes toward the wide end.
( Before starting, make sure that you have enough space!)

In this one foot spin position, you can rock on the curved base both longways and sideways. Rock and experiment till you find your balance point.

Place your arms straight in level with shoulders, bend the leg standing on Spinner and place your other leg wide on the side. Start the spin by pushing from your leg standing on the floor and spin until you stop.

Place your other foot on Spinner and repeat steps, this time spinning backwards.

When you have found and learnt to control your balance point by doing the exercises above, you can add use of arms while you spin. Gradually pull in your arms and finish your spin in landing position.
